Is Marine Plywood Waterproof?
Unfortunately marine plywood is not waterproof contrary to some misconceptions.
It is made from a hardwood core and hardwood veneer and held together with waterproof glue.
Our marine plywood is manufactured from ethically sourced Eucalyptus hardwood and an Okoume veneer and bonded together with Type A Phenolic WBP (Water and boil proof) Glue.
Whilst marine plywood isn’t waterproof it is manufactured to deal with moisture so if it does get wet it won’t swell up and delaminate.
Marine Plywood Sealer
There are several products on the market to seal marine plywood but we recommend a good quality 2 pack epoxy based sealer which can be absorbed into the layer of the plywood to help harden, densify and seal out moisture. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when thinning out the first coats to help with the penetration into the plywood
